Things to Know Before You Book

Practical tips to make the most of your visit to Dracula’s Castle.

🎫 Book online in advance — Walk-up queues reach 45–90 minutes during peak season (May–October). Book at bran-castle.com to guarantee your time slot and skip the queue.
👟 Wear closed-toe, non-slip shoes — The steep wooden staircases and uneven stone floors make high heels and flip-flops a genuine safety hazard. Trainers or walking shoes are essential.
🚫 No re-entry once you leave — Use the toilets at the ticket office before entering the castle. There are no toilets inside and you cannot exit and re-enter.
🕳️ Time Tunnel is a separate ticket — The underground multimedia experience costs 30 lei extra, or is included in the Royal Tour combo (170 lei adults). Plan it as your last stop — it exits into the Royal Gardens.
📸 Photography allowed, no flash — Personal photography is permitted throughout the castle. Flash photography and tripods are prohibited to protect the historic furnishings.
Arrive at opening or after 3:30 PM — The staircases between floors are the main bottleneck. Midday (11 AM–2 PM) in summer is the worst time. Early morning gives the calmest experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about visiting Bran Castle.

Not definitively, but the connection is more nuanced than a simple yes or no. Bram Stoker never visited Romania, but his 1897 novel is believed to have drawn on an illustration of Bran Castle. Vlad III (Vlad the Impaler) was most likely held prisoner here for about two months in 1462 — but he never lived or ruled here. The castle’s own Dracula Room presents this history honestly.
Standard entry: Adults 100 lei, Seniors (65+) 70 lei, Students 60 lei, Children (5–17) 40 lei, Children under 5 free, Disabled visitors free. The Time Tunnel add-on costs 30 lei. The Royal Tour combo (castle + Time Tunnel + Torture Museum) costs 170 lei for adults and 110 lei for children.
Yes, strongly recommended from May to October. Walk-up queues can reach 45–90 minutes on busy summer days and during the October Halloween season. Book online at bran-castle.com or through GetYourGuide to guarantee your entry time.
Allow 1.5 to 2 hours for the main castle across all four floors. Add 30 minutes for the Time Tunnel and Royal Gardens, and 30 minutes for the Torture Museum if visiting. A complete visit with all add-ons takes 2.5 to 3 hours, not including the souvenir market.
The castle interior is not wheelchair accessible due to steep staircases and narrow corridors — a permanent constraint of its Class A historical monument status. However, disabled visitors receive free entry, a dedicated lift gives access to the inner courtyard, and castle staff provide personalised support.
Yes. Personal photography is permitted throughout the castle interior and grounds. Flash photography and tripods are not allowed, to protect the historic furnishings and textiles. Professional photography requires a permit from the castle administration.
